It's been almost a year since I last posted. Yikes! So you might be asking why now? Why today? Well, I'll tell you weary traveler. Today in class our professor talked about blogs. She asked if anyone had one. My brain started to churn and I realized that I should answer, "yes"! So, I did. She asked me what I use it for. In my brain I chortled, but out loud I said, "To keep in touch with friends." Well, that would be true if I updated my journal and read the journals of my friends. I didn't say that out loud, just in my head.

Her point of talking about blogs today was to say that blogs can be a good tool to teach language. But I'm here for another reason.

I think it's a good way to keep in touch with family and friends, just like I thought it would be initially. It is a safe place where I don't have to log into the time sucking VORTEX that is Facebook. Seriously, I go on to see what my friends are up to, post a little, and maybe update a blurb on my profile and four hours later I'm all, "What the h*ll just happened"? I'll tell you what happened - those d*mn applications is what happened! They suck me in and I have to check on them all and send gifts and bank money and attack people and buy new farm implements and ... and ... and ... GAW!! It's too much.

So, I'm going to try to post regularly to LJ again. I will also direct my family to my LJ in case they want to see what's up. If I directed them to FB then they would have to have an account and that could be more trouble then it's worth. This way my family can just navigate to my LJ, see what's up, and click on.

Here's to ya LJ, to new re-beginnings, may we have a long ... er ... regular and happy relationship. \__/ Party on Wayne! Party on Garth!
So I came on here to check in with vampyrecat and vajrabot and noticed that is has been quite some time since I've posted anything. I guess I'm not a very good journal-er. Or I just live a boring life that has no cause for documenting. I journal therefore, I am and if I don't, then I'm not?

This past week has been very brain-heavy. I received a scholarship to attend a grant writing workshop. The workshop was M - F, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, except today when we left at 12:30! It was very intensive but I have so much more knowledge about grant writing. This will definitely help me in future endeavors. I'm excited!

During the first week of Winter Break I made a "To Do" list of what I wanted to accomplish during the Break. Here's the low-down:

Meet w/Karly (a friend, who apparently must be added to a "To Do" list because I am too lame to remember to call her)

Clean my room

Rearrange my room

FINISH NAS papers (I owe my teacher two semester papers still - I stated earlier that I was lame)

Work on script

Take GRE

Sign up for GWPE and take it

Finish writing sample (for graduate school applications)

Apply to graduate schools

I have accomplished ZERO of these things. Unbelievable! Next week is IT before school starts on the 21st. If I don't get something accomplished I will have had a completely unproductive Winter Break. It's insane how sidetracked I can get. Did I mention how lame I was? Next week is the only time I have left SO - FOR REALS - I will get AT LEAST three things accomplished. Seriously.

On another subject: People who honk at 9:30 at night are not considerate - I mean the "toot, toot" kind of honks. The honks that are saying, "see you later," not the "get out of the frickin' way or else we'll have bodily/property damage" kind of honks. Those are okay because your trying to warn someone. But to honk just to honk at night when people may be sleeping is just not cool.

GAWD, I'm old!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007): Watched this opening day. It was good. Wish there had been more of the book in the movie ... meaning, there was lots of great stuff in the book that was left out because of time constraints (I presume) and it would've added to the movie even more. And, yes, I would've sat through an extra half an hour just to see the added material. 5 out of 5 stabs with my sword.

1403 (2007): Watched this movie today. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would have been or maybe I'm getting jaded in my old age and so I don't spook as easily. Whatever the case the movie wasn't what I thought it would be so I had to process the movie that it was. It was okay. 3 out of 5 stabs with my sword.

Flash Gordon (1980): Remember this one??!!??!! The first time I saw this was at the Eureka Theater during Christmas time. Along time ago (in this galaxy, thank you) local kids were given free tickets to attend a movie while their parents when Christmas shopping. I was one of those lucky lasses and got to watch Flash Gordon one year. I have to say that the movie still holds up after all of these years. Yes, I do give you that the special effects aren't nearly as special. And the hot love scenes between Ming and Dale and then Princess Aura and Flash weren't quite as hot as my pre-teen mind thought they were at the time. But ... you have to admit that the costumes were fabulous and the soundtrack is one of the best ever scored to a movie! Thank you, Queen! 5 out of 5 stabs with my sword.

The Hunger (1983): Again, another nostalgic movie for a pre-teen lass. This one I watched at the Eureka Theater with my father, yes, swabbies, my father. I have to say that not all fathers are gifted with common sense and apparently he was one of them. This is the same man that gave me my first drink of liquor - not beer, mind you - and my first cigar. All in all I believe these were some of the early steps towards becoming the fiendish pirate I am today! But, I digress. Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie are simply gorgeous in this movie and even the young Susan Sarandon (from Rocky Horror fame) finally gets sexier once she's gone over to the dark side, so to speak. I enjoy this movie because it gives an alternative glimpse into vampire culture and lifeways. It's not merely a blood-sucking, heart-staking movie. 5 out of 5 stabs with my sword.
